The Murgese horse, a passion.

When, many years ago, I went to Verona to visit the horse fair, I was impressed by the imposing and elegant image of a beautiful black horse. That animal filled the space around him with his presence.

As  a  horses’ lover I realized that those creatures would never come out of my life.

Lucky encounters with other fans allowed us to learn more about the race and pushed us to our first purchases. We had found a  beautiful, balanced, simple and frugal horse to raise.

Masseria Giancamisa, in the middle of rugged territory of the Murge, could be a limit for the breeding of other horse races, but not for the Murgese horse.

Experience has also taught us that most of the beauty and balance, characterizing the murgese horse, is due precisely to the territory in which it is raised and that have given him the name. The ground is hard, the stones emerge everywhere as they were seeded, the pastures are not always lush. All this has made the murgese able to adapt and strengthen the physical and mental power.

The old breeding methods used until a few decades ago, and not yet entirely disappeared, were the antithesis of any ethology rule. Only horses with enormous seriousness and sanity could tolerate this method. The result is an “intelligent” horse, with good will and desire to please. Once a warrior, then an indispensable partner for working in the country and  now it is a proud exemplary of absolute beauty. The murgese horse has always been able to adapt to the human needs, even when they acted as a predator.

The murgese is definitely a versatile and comprehensive horse.
